According to Noli Me Tangere by José P. Rizal, every girl had her own desperations during the Spanish colonization in the Philippines. For Doña Victorina, it was vanity that took over. She always wanted to be the center of attention and so; wealth, social class, and recognition became her topmost priorities. Forgetting her Filipino roots, she continued her pretentious ways and made her way up, as cancer to the society.
