SINGAPORE – Field trips, beyond the classroom learning is one of Raffles Singapore’s multi-faceted learning approaches where Raffles Fashion Marketers have a taste of converting classroom learning into the real-world applications.
To prepare Raffles Fashion Marketers for the industry world, Raffles Creative Practitioners, Joyce LAI brought 18 of them to Hong Kong for a merchandise sourcing and buying trip on 28th to 30th of October 2015.
The main purpose of the trip is for our Raffles Fashion Marketers to source for merchandise for their upcoming pop-up bazaar project. They were brought to the Mega Trade Show to source for premiums, gifts, lifestyle products, housewares, toys & games and stationery in the Asia-Pacific region. For building their market research content, they were brought to Lane Crawford at Time Square where they were exposed to designer collections across womenswear, menswear, shoes and accessories, beauty and home and lifestyle.
The highlight of the trip, however was the Global Sources Fashion Trade Show where there were over 1,400 booths of fashion suppliers; accessories, footwear, fashion apparel, underwear & swimwear. What an eye-opening experience for our Raffles Fashion Marketers!
Generally, most students find this trip fruitful and useful for their pop-up bazaar project preparation because they were able to source unique merchandise at reasonable prices. Through this trip, they experienced behind-the-scenes business of buyers, vendors, product developers and marketers as well as getting the latest updates in the fashion business.

They were fascinated by the magnitude of the industry and hundreds of exhibitors and products.
