Indonesia – Four Raffles Fashion Designers from Raffles Surabaya took part in the eighth annual Surabaya Fashion Parade at Tunjungan Plaza in May 2015, which was also in conjunction with the city’s 722nd anniversary.
Stunning collections were showcased at the runway by Raffles Fashion Designer Jessica Wijaya and her “De La Mort” collection for Autumn/Winter. She was inspired by the Angel of Death, which symbolised the complexity of human life. Black represented the mystery of death, red symbolised the blood of life, and braided chains portrayed the story of complex human lives connected to one another but always ended in the same way.
Another Raffles Fashion Designer Josephine Lijanto showed off her “Metropolis” collection with its futuristic theme inspired by the Fritz Lang film, Metropolis (1947).

Raffles Creative Practitioner Sri Lukito Sari also exhibited her new “Strings Attached” collection. It was a capsule collection inspired by the Hunt Hill Bridge designed by Santiago Calatrava. The majestic suspension cables spanned over 400 feet to support the bridge were translated into layers of fringed details and biased strings. The collection featured edgy, textured fabric and sophisticated patterns to give an elegant yet sporty look to the energetic young models – a perfect wardrobe solution for young professionals wanting to look both sharp and funky at the same time.
Raffles Fashion Designer Christina Tanujaya also presented her “Premier Extase” (The First Ecstasy) collection, where the quest for physical pleasure began when liberty was born. With “The First Ecstasy,” Christina emphasised the sensuality of female body and reflected on ways for women to enhance and release desire. The garments acted as jewel cases to tame and reveal femininity with delicacy. Organza allowed sheer tulle and lace to caress the skin. A spectrum of nudity added a gentle touch to the collection and combined with the use of red for an enchanting finish. The intricate floral lace and drape organdy created a fantasy aesthetic with subtle beading reflecting the light and highlighting aspects of the gowns. Focusing on feminine silhouettes, the gowns were fitted to emphasise on waists, with flare-style dresses to exaggerate women’s natural curves.
