An Interactive Journey at Hermes Showcase

SINGAPORE – To supplement the students understanding of the Leather Industry, production, and heritage of the House of Hermes, Fashion Design students were brought by Raffles Creative Practitioner Brian William FORST to Hermes Leather Forever Exhibition at ArtScience Museum on 26 and 27 November 2015.

The main purpose of the field trip was to prepare the students for their final project that examines the fur and leather and fake fur and PVC industries and their impacts on the environment.

In celebration of Hermes’ long-lasting affinity with leather, Hermes Leather Forever world tour makes its stop in Singapore at the ArtScience Museum. The exhibition was held from 25 October to 13 December, featured work from the past and present, including some from its latest collections. Not only students get to see the collections crafted with the finest leather, they were given an exclusive insight into the makings of some of the most coveted Hermes pieces with live leather working demonstrations from craftsmen flown in from Paris. Visitors were in awe of these craftsmen as they created some of Hermes’ iconic bags on site.

Feedbacks collected were generally pleasant as the students find the field trip helpful for their final project research. Embarked on the poetic journey exploring Hermès’ love of this fine material, it was indeed an eye-opening experience for the students to have the chance to discover the rich expression of Hermès’ core métier with Leather Forever.

“Overall it was beneficiary for the students and was a nice little break from the daily routine as we were approaching the deadline for Graduation and Fashion show. I look forward to more outings and guest speakers in the future to help our students succeed in their studies.” Brian William FORST commented at the end of the exhibition.
