Studying at Raffles wasn’t enough for Joyce Lai as she came back to teach at Raffles Singapore. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Business Management from University of Bradford in UK. Prior to joining Raffles, Joyce acquired a rewarding Fashion Marketing career over a span of 15 years as a buyer, merchandising manager and entrepreneur. Some of the prestigious luxury brand that Joyce worked with included Lane Crawford which is a retailing company with specialty stores selling designer label luxury goods, and BHG which is Singapore’s leading departmental store and a renowned menswear distributor in the region. Her recent project was being involved in the revamping of BHG Singapore’s flagship store, where she introduced a sleek demeanour reflecting a stylish and modern retail experience to the storefront.
Joyce’s vast knowledge in ladies wear, lingerie, maternity wear, menswear, shoes and home fashion will help students to better understand the latest trends of fashion merchandising and marketing. Adding on to her extensive portfolio, Joyce’s stint with Singapore National Heritage Board contributed to her expertise in branding and content generation through creative lifestyle and gift products. Her team was awarded Gold award in the Best Merchandise category of International Design & Communication Awards (IDCA) 2013. Nonetheless, her exciting career life doesn’t stop her interests in reading, violin and yoga.
Digital Media Design
Michael Loo was another successful graduate from Raffles and decided to impart his extensive experience to students at Raffles Singapore. After he graduated from Raffles, he pursued his career as an IT trainer, specialising and teaching Adobe Design software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Dreamweaver and Premiere at the primary, secondary and tertiary schools.
The experience unearthed his hidden passion for teaching and ultimately aspired him to teach Multimedia Design. Weaving his aspirations into reality, Michael gained more industry experience after working as a freelancer and eventually formed his own company, Persona Interactive, providing a one-stop Digital Media Design solutions for his clients. His portfolio included big clients such as DBS, Canon Singapore, BMW and Seagate.
Michael later moved on to several roles in different sectors but his passion to teach was constantly at the back of his head. It didn’t took Michael long to realise that, so he decided to go where his knowledge was built and to teach at Raffles Singapore.
