SINGAPORE – Raffles Singapore, together with Paragon Shopping Centre, launched the first, one-of-a-kind, Virtual Reality Fashion Show featuring 11 Raffles Fashion and Jewellery Designers, jointly produced by Raffles Marketers and Raffles Multimedia Designers.
This event marked an interdisciplinary collaboration between our Raffles students, in the production of a fashion show that is both interactive and multisensory, through the use of multimedia and virtual reality technology. Shoppers were treated to an unlimited use of technology to create an interactive and multisensory experience, with a large robotic arm powered by Weltron, which picks up and carries around various fashion pieces, enabling individuals to get a 360-degree view of the items, so as to enhance their shopping experience at Paragon, in turn providing a glimpse into the near future of what shopping will entail.
With an eclectic display which combines fashion, robotics, and virtual reality to deliver a fresh shopping experience, the public were driven with excitement to be the first to encounter the future of Singapore’s retail scene. Besides getting a 360-degree view of the entire fashion show through the Samsung Gear VR Oculus, they were also treated to an exciting line-up of Glamleisure displays and activities, sporting a variety of themes every week.
Mr. Giuseppe (Joe) Spinelli, Principal of Raffles College of Higher Education, shared that Raffles College of Higher Education’s interdisciplinary approach towards design education makes fashion more accessible to the public. Together with the Fashion and Jewellery Design students, the team of Multimedia Design students created an interactive multisensory fashion show, choreographed by Fashion Marketing students, through the use of multimedia and virtual reality technology. “We are thrilled to be part of this collaboration, in which Raffles Design students apply their creative knowledge and skills, as part of the mall’s initiative to elevate shoppers’ experience at Paragon,” he said.
