Raffles Jakarta Takes On AirAsia Runway Ready Designer Search

JAKARTA – The AirAsia Runway Ready Designer Search (AARRDS) is an event that showcases new talents in the fashion industry. For the second edition of this annual event, three young talented Raffles Fashion Designers have been selected to represent Indonesia. They will compete in the Grand Finale in Kuala Lumpur on 19 August 2016.

Sarah DEVINA SUSANTO and Hanifia RAHMADIANI of Raffles Institute of Higher Education Jakarta were selected as two of the three top finalists from hundreds of young designers who signed up for the audition. All designers have gone through two rigorous round of judging. They were chosen based on creativity and originality of design, consistency in the overall collection, compliance to the given theme, practicality of the collection and presentation to the jury. This year’s panel of judges consisted of renowned fashion designer Ghea PANGGABEAN, Nina K. ADELIA, Editor-in-Chief of ELLE Indonesia, Founder of Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week, Andrew TAN, owner of fashion e-commerce website ‘Fashion Valet’, Vivy YUSOF, as well as Head of Sales and Distribution AirAsia Indonesia, Adelheid Helena BOKAU.

All three finalists will have the opportunity to showcase their work on the runway during Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week Ready to Wear (KLFW RTW) and compete for the title of AirAsia’s Most Promising Designer in 2016.

Here’s what our finalists have to say:

“I’m feeling grateful and excited to represent Indonesia in Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week 2016. My inspiration came partly from my national heritage, Batik, and I am proud to showcase it at the international level. It is indeed a great experience to have the opportunity to compete with other finalists from different countries. AirAsia Runway Ready Designer Search 2016 had given me extra motivation to give my best in representing my own country, as many talented designers from other countries will be showcasing their equally unique and interesting designs.” Sarah DEVINA SUSANTO

“I feel thrilled and honoured to represent Indonesia in such a great event. This competition gave me an opportunity to display my work on the international stage – while being able to give back to my home country by introducing Indonesian culture through its inspiration (the Story of Dewi Sri).” Hanifia RAHMADIANI
