INDONESIA – Ten designers across Indonesia battled it out at the Asia New Generation Fashion Designer Award (ANGFDA), a competition aimed to seek out bright young talents in the world of fashion design.

Commonly known as New Generation Bazaar, the ANGFDA has already reached its third instalment. The competition, initiated by Harper’s Bazaar magazine, is back to unearth up-and-coming fashion designers to add dazzle to the booming fashion industry.

For its third instalment, participants went through the selection phases panelled by world-renowned fashion practitioners from Indonesia such as Ria LIRUNGAN (Editor-in-Chief of Harper’s Bazaar Indonesia), Michael PONDAAG (Fashion Director of Harper’s Bazaar Indonesia), Didi BUDIARDJO (Fashion Designer), and Biyan WANNATMADJA (Fashion Designer).

In the fiercely-contested competition, Raffles Fashion Designers Wilsen WILLIM and William UTAMA fought against all odds to win this year’s Harper’s Bazaar Indonesia Asia Newgen Fashion Designer Award. Taking place at Plaza Indonesia Fashion Week 2016, hundreds of fashion elites attended the prestigious event. The two Raffles Designers will represent Indonesia in the final that will take place in Malaysia.

“It is totally unexpected, I am glad to see that the hard work has paid off. I am so glad that I was given the space to work in Raffles Jakarta. It is just amazing that I won.” Said Wilsen.

William, an alumni of Raffles, started his eponymous label while Wilsen is currently honing his skills at Raffles Jakarta.

Of particular mention is that Laurensia SALIM, an alumni of Raffles Singapore, received the Special Prize Award from PT Sri Rejeki Isman Tbk. Better known as Sritex, Sri Rejeki Isman is Southeast Asia’s largest textile manufacturer.

Following the success of their Raffles predecessors, Wilsen and William can already look ahead of their respective careers. ANGDA has also helped to kick-start the careers of Peggy HARTANTO and Sheila Agatha WIJAYA, who were both crowned as winners of the competition in 2013. Having graduated from Raffles Sydney and Raffles Singapore respectively, both have soared like eagles beyond the Indonesian archipelago with their labels Peggy Hartanto and Sean & Sheila. They are also part of the young designers whose names are always credited in every Indonesian fashion show.

Wilsen and William will be competing with winners from Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand in the regional section of the competition.
