Heads Up: Featuring Raffles Mumbai

India – Raffles Mumbai was recently featured on NDTV Prime’s television show Heads Up, a daily infotainment programme in one of the segments that focused on the lucrativeness of interior design. Titled “Being an interior designer in India”, topics mentioned within the show involved investing to transform homes, roping in interior designers to provide their expertise and the lucrativeness of having it as a career option in India, which was the latter topic discussed in the segment with Raffles Mumbai.

Among those interviewed by host Ankita Sinha were Programme Director Mr. Dominik Rasik and Raffles Designers Samarth Harlalka, Ananhita Shah and Kahan Patil. When asked on how the course’s planning will be beneficial to the students, Mr. Dominik Rasik explained, “On one hand, we have practical courses that prepare the students for the industry, getting them ready in actual professional roles that involve architecture drafting, construction studies and building technology. On the other hand, we have theoretical modules that involve philosophical and cultural aspects pertaining to the profession.”

When asked by the host on which appeals more, Kahan Patil added that the practical aspect has been conducive in giving him hands on experience that he does not gain in school. “Even when we are doing actual projects on sites during internship periods, we get to learn things we do not learn in college as what happens on the site is an experience that adds to the whole factor.”

To trigger an amount of interest in the aspects of the field have led Samarth Harlalka to sum up the interview with her keenness in mixing technicality and designing together. “Interior design has an equal amount from both technicality and designing. Your design has to be rationale and you have to be technically sound so the house won’t crumble.”
