Raffles at ‘Rediscover; Recreate’ Talk by Mr. Naoto FUKASAWA

SINGAPORE – A group of Raffles Product Designers led by Creative Practitioner, Emanuel MAIA, visited School of the Arts Singapore (SOTA), to attend the talk ‘Rediscover; Recreate’ by renowned Japanese product designer, Mr. Naoto FUKASAWA. He has collaborated with some of the world’s leading companies and brands, across Europe and Asia, and has won over fifty awards, including the American IDEA Gold Award, the British D&AD Gold Award, and the 5th Oribe Award.

To mark the opening of MUJI Singapore’s flagship store and the launch of the city’s first Found MUJI concept at Plaza Singapura, Mr. Naoto FUKASAWA delivered a presentation on rediscovering and recreating, further exploring the possibility of a Southeast Asian edition of Found MUJI.

This was followed by a panel discussion by both local and regional creatives, consisting of Mr. FUKASAWA himself; Miss Naoko YANO, Chief, MUJI Design Office, Household; Mr Justin LONG, Co-founder of design studio, Hjgher and UNDERSCORE magazine; Mr Edwin LOW, Founder of Supermama Gallery Shop; and Miss Suzy ANNETTA, Co-founder and Editor-in-Chief of Design Anthology magazine. They shared their thoughts on some of the objects that have grown to become an indispensable part of today’s society.

Our students were enlightened about the design process at MUJI, and how they can gain inspiration from old objects, to create useful, good quality products in the future. Having the opportunity to learn more about the manufacturing and design management aspects, indeed imparted our students with both creative and technical knowledge, hence preparing them to develop and transform into professionals in the product design industry.
